Why am I running?

I am running as a write-in candidate for Boulder County Commissioner in District 1. Anyone in the county can vote for me by writing in "Raphael Minot" on the ballot on November 5. Here are a few answers to questions a number of people have asked me:
Why do you want to run against an incumbent?
I am concerned about decisions Commissioner Levy has made about many issues. I will mention one here.
- I was very concerned about the vote to continue using aerial spraying of pesticides. Claire’s vote on the aerial spraying of pesticides was out of line with what her constituents want. Nor did she listen to the experts or science regarding the genotoxic effects of the pesticide being used.
The Democrats have already picked our candidate through the Primary process. What makes you think you should be able to run as a write in?
Because our Democratic process, through DEMOCRACY, allows me to. I went through the Colorado Secretary of State to make sure I’m following the process.
Why should I vote for you? You have no experience.
You’re correct, I have no experience in government. We have had Commissioners who were elected with no experience in the past. What I do have is experience in the mental health field and an interest in fairness and justice. I was very concerned about the vote to continue using aerial spraying of pesticides. Claire’s vote on the aerial spraying of pesticides was out of line with what her constituents want. She didn’t listen to the experts or science about the effects of pesticides on our food and in our water. I am very concerned about our environment, clean air and water, affordable housing and transportation. I will listen, be a team player, and work hard to do my best. Everything else can be learned.
I think I can do a better job serving the entire county, better protect our environment and provide housing resources to the most vulnerable citizens in Boulder County. Please study my platform and consider my request. Thank you.
